Punters to rally for provincial winner at Canterbury

HE’S the best backed runner on today’s Canterbury card, but Marc Lambourne expects punters to rally for one of Obsidian’s key rivals in Race Two.

The Chris Waller-trained import has been well supported from $3.00 to $2.10 in early betting for the Benchmark 67 event over 1900 metres.

But with doubts over his ability at the trip, Lambourne expects his main danger according to the market to assume favouritism come post time.

“Signposted ($2.50) controlled the race at Hawkesbury and shot off down the road,” Lambourne said.

“He looks to control the race again today and has had experience at the track and distance.

“There is a small doubt about Obsidian stepping up to this trip – he was restricted to the mile when trained in England.

“Despite dropping back from Saturday grade and being overseas bred he may find chasing over this distance problematic.

“For that reason I expect punters to rally to Signposted late.”

Lambourne has once again provided a full set of assessed and expected prices for every runner in every race at Canterbury today.
