A three-year-old filly taking on seasoned older mares for the first time appears the easiest favourite for Darren Potter to oppose on today’s Flemington card.
The Victorian pro punter has identified Daniela Rosa, the $2.30 market elect in Race Four (Fillies & Mares Benchmark 84 Handicap) over 1800m, as a vulnerable commodity.
He’s also identified one key contender which he believes will beat her.
“Daniela Rosa is coming off a nice win last start but it was a fairly soft fillies race,” Potter said.
“Today she has to step up to the open class mares and take on the likes of Yulong Baby ($3.20), which comes through tough races against the males.
FLEMINGTON TRACK: Wind to play havoc at Victorian headquarters
“I think Daniela Rosa has plenty of questions to answer. This is a race without a leader and no obvious pace, which will probably leave it to her to take it up.
“But as we discussed yesterday, the likelihood of strong Westerly winds will be a nightmare for leaders. Even if the tempo is soft, she’ll be doing it tough into the breeze.
“She’s stepping up beyond the mile for the first time and I have Yulong Baby aiming up at her in the right part of the track on the turn for home.
“At this stage I’m happy to be with Yulong Baby and against Daniela Rosa.”
Potter’s Saturday sets are operating in big profit mode and he’s sunk his teeth into another big Flemington card for subscribers today.
